Looking at the Moon

Last night I noticed that the moon was out right after I tucked Sam into bed. I quickly grabbed our telescope and focused it in on the moon and then called Sam out from his room to look at it. This time I remembered to grab my camera! He's really interested in watching the moon, stars and planets. Looks like I created a monster. BUT I LOVE IT! I loved learning about them when I was younger so now I get to do it all over again with him.

Now a question for all of my readers out there. What books would you suggest for Sam to learn more about space?

Here's one of the pictures that I took last night. You can even see the moon in the distance up in the sky.

At the end of the year book fair, David got a book called "Team Moon How 400,000 People Landed Apollo 11 on the Moon".

It's all about the Apollo 11 mission and what it took to pull it off - and all the challenges faced.

It's a good book - it makes you realize just how much goes into getting people in space and back home again safely.

  2. It might be a little more age appropriate for someone younger, but it's a good book. We got it at the Kennedy Space Center in Fl. (Definitely worth the trip!) Anyway, I still learned a lot from the book, too. It's called "I Wonder Why the Stars Twinkle" by Carole Stott. Check out my science blog, http://kidsinlabcoats.blogspot.com/
I will update it again this weekend.

  3. That is SO cool!! My kids love looking at the moon and stars too, though we don't have a telescope!

Sorry I have no book recommendations b/c my kids are still younger but I'll sure be checking out the other recommendations you get!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
