This morning after I got home from working (crossing guard) I realized just what I must have looked like....a total DORK! I had on my red coat, a green scarf, a purple head covering (see pictures below) and my bright neon yellow vest. Not to mention the layers of clothing on under the outerwear. But you know what? I WAS WARM! Over 60 ISDs were closed in our area but not ours. The feels like this morning was 12 degrees with winds at 20 mph and gusting to 28 mph. The van was iced but the roads were pretty much dry. Of course the corner where I work there was ice and every time I stepped out into the street I had to time it just right and then I would say a ton of prayers that I the cars would stop in time. I can't even begin to tell you how many vehicles slid through the stop signs and then would gun it and spin their wheels on the ice to try and go again.
Now on to my head covering. It's called a Calorimetry...I knit this quite some time ago but never had a chance to wear it. I never did check my gauge so mine is a bit bigger than I wanted it but it still works. When it's really windy outside I like to have my long hair up so it doesn't blow in my face but it makes it hard to wear a really warm hat. So when I saw this pattern I knew that it would work for me...and it does! Now my head and ears stay toasty warm and I can still have my hair up! You can find the pattern and how it should really look here: Knitty
Here is the back side where you can see how it attaches with a button. Please note that it was so cold out this morning that I wore no make-up at all and my eyes and face are now red from all the cold wind.Do you realize how hard it is to take the picture of the back of your own head?

I'd rather look like a dork and be warm than to be fashionable and cold.
I saw a headwrap similar to yours in Claire's the other day. I wanted to try it on but it was firmly attached to the cardboard backing. Maybe you should make one for me....hint, hint. I like blues, browns, and greens. =D
That is a cool wrap.
I love this! And, yes, I do know how hard it is to take a great pic of the back of your head...good job!!
Also, you've been awarded The Lemonade Stand Award @ Carrigan's Joy! http://tiny.cc/TVcSH
Living up here in Canada and walking so much, warmth is way more important than comfort. I am used to looking dorky, so don't feel bad.
ps - your eyes are lovely, made up or not.
I say that if you were warm, that's all that matters! :)
Not dorky at all! And I would love to have one of those Calorimetry for my outside duty at school. I could have really used it for these 20 degree temps we've had.
