I Heart Faces ~ Best Face Photo from Summer 2011

I have been thinking that I want to concentrate more on my photography again.  Don't know how much I can put into it as life is always changing.  One way to concentrate on it more is by participating in photo challenges that I find.  I love doing them as it makes me grab my camera and head on out there and take a photo that I otherwise would not have done.

I've been asked by many (and I'm very proud to say "many") if I'd be willing to sell prints of some of my photography.  I'm going to look into doing so this week.  Going to try to find out what all it would entail. So if you have any hints or tips my ears are open!

In the meantime I'm going to jump back into doing the weekly challenges over at I Heart Faces.  This week is a great week for me to jump back in because it's "Best Face Photo from Summer 2011" week.

The photo that I'm submitting is one of my son enjoying his favorite summertime treat....Berries and Cream Popsicles. I had originally wanted to take a photo of him eating one with his eyes open and ended up taking many.  But as luck would have it those photos didn't turn out nearly as well as this one did.  This one shows the pure enjoyment of taking a lick of the popsicle.

Wordless and Wordful Wednesday ~ Too Darn Hot!

Today we hit 32 days in a row of hitting 100 degrees or more.  We've had a total of 39 days at or over 100 degrees.  We're on target to tie and possibly beat the all time record of 42 days in a row.  See the 10 day forecast below.  And to make matters worse we haven't had rain since May.

If you would like to see more Wordless photos head on over to Wordless Wednesday, 5 Minutes for Mom, Live and Love...Out Loud, Project Alicia and J. Leigh Designz. Now if you're like me and sometimes you can't stay wordless head on over to see some Wordful Wednesday photos at Parenting by Dummies.  Don't forget to sign the Linky below.

Crazy Days of Summer ~ Yellow

Before you do anything else I have a HUGE favor to ask you. Please read this post "HERE" and vote for the school mentioned trying to win the grand prize from Big Lots. It would mean the world to them as they have so little while we all have so much. Then come back here.

This weeks theme for Crazy Days of Summer is: Yellow.  Since I have been packing up my house this week I haven't had much time to go out and look for "yellow" to take some pictures of.  I went as far as our yard and found a weed.  Much to my surprise I have had a ton of fun playing around with this weeds picture.  Below are just the original picture and 5 other processes (using Picnik ... Love that site!) that I did out of the 18 that I had fun making.  I'm also submitting this photo for the "Favorite Photo of the Week Contest", "Show {Off} Your Shot" and "Fabulous Friday".

So without further ado...I give you:

I'm H-O-T HOT!

Baby It's Cold Hot Outside!  I'm not kidding!  It's very hot here.  We're on day 7 of 100 degree plus weather and it looks like it will go on for possibly another 9-10 days!  There really isn't much you can do to cool off when it's this hot.  We run our fans as we keep our AC turned up so it doesn't run all day long.  Some of our friends pay anywhere from $400 to $650 a month (you got that I just said per month right?) for their electric bill.  Our highest so far is $204!  Electricity is very expensive in TX.  You know it's been hot long enough when we walked outside today and realized that it didn't feel that hot...nope...we're just getting used to it.  What's really scary is right now we're watching the TX Rangers vs the Oakland A's and it's 64 degrees out there!  The umps are all bundled up and even wearing gloves!  Oh I only wish!  I really do love summer.  While you're here please vote for me in a photo contest I've entered: Enjoying the Pool

The other evening we had had enough of the hot weather.  Check out what we did!  Oh...you'll need to have your speakers on for this one.

First Week of Summer & Friday Follow

It's Thursday night/Friday morning and we are almost at the end of our fist week of summer break.  We haven't done much but to try to adjust to a new schedule.  A schedule which is hard to figure out.  You see when you have a child that is ADHD, ODD and has Anxiety they thrive to have structure and schedules.  But we try very hard to ease the structure and schedule out a bit so that we can relax and enjoy our breaks.  We've made a calendar for him that has all of our daily "outings" on it along with required appointments and of course his daily chores.

He is still going to have tutoring over the summer and I have to say we have the best tutor!  She is going to be a senior in High School this year and will be going to college to be a teacher.  She has the best demeanor with Sam and has stuck it out with us even through some of Sam's worst days.  I am letting her take the reigns over the summer and today was our first meeting with her leading everything.  I have to say WOW!  She had Sam doing Math, Science, and Reading.  He is going to do one Math problem a day as his homework and he has a sheet of finding words hidden in sentences for fun.  Let me tell you that I have now seen something that I have not seen before...Sam couldn't stop working on the hidden words!  He even worked on it all the way home.

Tomorrow we'll be spending a good part of our day at Hawaiian Falls Water Park (thanks Mom and Dad for our season passes!) and I have to say that I can't wait.  In the evening our church has the whole place to ourselves!  It's a way for us all to get together and kick off the summer.  I'll be sure to take the camera and take some pictures for you all to see.

If you are here from Friday Follow....WELCOME!  Let me know that you were here and have followed me and I'll do the same.  I hope you have a great Friday!

Thursday 13 ~ Summer

Joining in with Thursday 13 this week.  This time I thought I would list 13 things I would like to do or will do this summer.

  1. Go to Hawaiian Falls and enjoy the sun and water.  Yes, I'll wear protection.  Always do.
  2. Read!  I would like to read a ton of books this summer!
  3. Take care of our flower garden up front.  I can't wait until they all start blooming!
  4. Take care of our veggie garden.  Well it's not quite a garden as it's a container garden.
  5. REST!
  6. I'm in the chorus of "My Fair Lady" so that will be taking up some time this summer...and it is always a lot of fun to do!
  7. Spending time with the family doing day trips.  We always have so much fun doing these.
  8. Go to the library weekly.
  9. Organize the garage further.
  10. Go to some more baseball games.
  11. Go to the zoo.
  12. Knit.
  13. Craft in general!
Share with me what  you're going to do or would like to do this summer!

8*8*08

It's finally here! This date won't happen again for another 100 years! And unless you have been living in a cave under a rock somewhere you know that today is the start of the Olympics. I love watching the Olympics (always have and always will) and can't wait for it to start this evening. I'll probably record most of it so that I can fast forward through commercials and other parts that I just don't want/care to watch.

Sam is also excited to watch as he is participating in several sports that are in these Olympic games.
He will watch:
Athletics
Cycling Track
Football
Swimming
These are his top 4 but I'm sure there will be more.

I love all the sports and will watch a lot of them. My question to you is...what is your favorite sport to watch during the Olympics. Please vote in my poll! It is located on the left hand column. You can even take this poll and put it on your site! Just click "get this poll" towards the bottom of the poll and it will pop up a code for you. How cool! I look forward to seeing what everyone likes.

You need to check out these photos! Especially number 22 & 31! Amazing!

Favorite Summertime Drinks

What is your favorite summertime drink??

I actually have several. Besides Ice Cold Sun Tea, Ice Cold Diet Coke, and Ice Water I really like to make the following drinks:

Cool Melon Water:

2 cups ripe watermelon (you can also use cantaloupe) peeled, seeded and cubed
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 to 1/2 cup cold water
Juice of one lemon

Blend all ingredients together. Transfer to tall ice-filled glasses. Serves 6

Lime Mint Slush:

1 banana, coarsely chopped
6 mint leaves
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 cup milk
1/4 cup ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender and process until slushy. Serve immediately. Serves 2.

Pineapple Zinger:
2 cups pineapple, coarsely chopped
1 cup orange juice
1 banana, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons honey
2 cups ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender and process until smooth. Serve immediately. Serves 3.

Citrus Cocktail:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup grapefruit juice
1/4 cup lime juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup club soda
1/2 cup ice cubes

In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and swirl to dissolve sugar. Allow to cool. In a pitcher, combine all ingredients, mixing well. Serves 3.

I haven't made these in quite some time but I may just do so some time soon. They are all so good on a hot summer day.

So what are your favorite summer drinks? Please so share!
