Crazy Days of Summer ~ Patriotism

This weeks theme for Crazy Days of Summer is Patriotism.  I thought of many ways that I could go with this photo.  But after taking my Mom and Dad to the Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetery on July 4th I knew exactly what photo would represent and mean Patriotism.  It's a fairly new National Cemetery as far as National Cemeteries go as it's only been open since 2000.  It's set on 638 acres of beautiful rolling hills and once it is at capacity it will hold 280,000 eligible veterans and their dependents.  Here are just a few of the brave men and women that gave their lives for their country.

Below is the same area but taken from further away.

I'm also submitting the first photo for the "Favorite Photo of the Week Contest", "Show {Off} Your Shot" and "Fabulous Friday".

Happy 4th?

I'd love to be able to share with you that we had a fantastic 4th of July.  Well most of it was really good.  Had a great church service today.  Andy played in a brass ensemble that was just awesome!  If you'd like to hear them (which you should) you can see the service archived on our church website here.  We had a great dinner out today too.  The not so good part of our day was spent with me at the doc in the box.  You see last night (which was a GREAT evening with some girlfriends) I fell getting into my friends car and I watched my thumb go backwards.  By this morning my left thumb was so sore and swollen I couldn't move it.  Now?  My thumb has a hairline fracture and is in a brace/splint contraption. I've had a shot for the pain and have meds to take at home.  Happy 4th to me!  Since I didn't get to take any pictures of the 4th of July today I thought I would share a funny one of a clown that I took at last years 4th of July parade. Read her sign closely!  I really do hope that all of you have had a fantastic 4th today!

Happiness Project - Week 9

Photobucket

I missed last weeks Happiness Project so I want to make sure that I don't miss this weeks. What makes me happy you ask?  The smile on my hubbies face when he met Nolan Ryan at last years 4th of July Parade!  It was a great day!  What makes you happy?  If you'd like to play along just click on the button above.

July 4th Celebrations

For the 4th of July, we went over to a friends house and I made Lemon Bars this afternoon to take with us. I found the recipe on the Clean Home Journal website. Sam helped and even used the mixer quite well.

Also made our fruit dip today. We make if for most of the gatherings we attend. Here's the recipe:

Fruit Dip
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white granulated sugar
8 oz cream cheese softened
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all together with a mixer until smooth. Chill and then served with sliced apples or other fruits.
