Who Doesn't Love...READING!!

I have always loved to read and can't think of a time in my life where I didn't have at least 2 books (ok, or more) on my nightstand.  I love going to the library and I particularly love getting FREE books either the physical copy or in e-format.  I wish that I had more time to read or could devote more time to it every day.

I like doing reading challenges too.  I thought about compiling a list for you but then remembered that one of my favorite blogs already has a list compiled.  Head on over to Feed Your Fiction Addiction and check this list out for 2017 reading challenges.  WARNING: Be prepared to be there for awhile.  She will have the 2018 list up in a few weeks and I can't wait to see what's on there.

If you like FREE books in e-format then you need to subscribe to the following.  They will send you an email daily with links to the books that are FREE that day.  What a better way to build your library!

Freebooksy (Free books)
Bookbub (FREE along with discounted books)
Bookshout (discounted books)
Pixel of Ink (FREE along with discounted books)
Bargin Booksy (discounted books)

I like to read just about any genre of book except horror.  Never have like it and I don't know if I ever will.    There are soooo many!  Here is a list that I have come up with:

  • Science fiction
  • Satire
  • Drama
  • Action and Adventure
  • Romance
  • Suspense
  • Mystery
  • Horror
  • Self help
  • Health
  • Guide
  • Travel
  • Children's
  • Religion, Spirituality & New Age
  • Science
  • History
  • Math
  • Anthology
  • Poetry
  • Comics
  • Art
  • Cookbooks
  • Diaries
  • Journals
  • Prayer books
  • Series
  • Trilogy
  • Biographies
  • Autobiographies
  • Fantasy

  • Did I miss any?  I probably did.   I'm re-reading (again) The Little House on the Prairie books.  I read these as a little girl and not only do I love re-reading them because they are good books but because they bring back so many memories while I read them.  They are fantastic books for any age/gender and I recommend them all the time to those that are looking for books to give as gifts.

I've also started the Witch & Wizard series by James Patterson.  The first book is titled Witch & Wizard.

I really like reading the BE Series that Warren Wiersbe writes and have just started reading his Be Responsible based on 1 Kings earlier this week.

What genre do you like to read?  What are you reading now?  Do you ever read more than one book at a time?

Fall Into Reading 2011 ~ My Reading List

I can't believe it's the first day of Fall!  It's my favorite time of year and I look forward to it each year.  Especially after such a record setting summer of high temps.  Seventy days of this summer were at 100 degrees F or higher.  So, yes, I'm definitely ready for fall this year.  And I'm ready to start some serious reading again.  To join in head on over to Callapidder Days and read over the Basics.  Then put your list together and link up to share with everyone else.  You might even find some good books while you're looking around.

    My List:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J K Rowling (Book 2)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling (Book 3)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J K Rowling (Book 4)
Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix by J K Rowling (Book 5)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J K Rowling (Book 6)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J K Rowling (Book 7)
    Brisingr by Christopher Paolini

I started re-reading the Harry Potter books after the last movie this summer but only finished Book 1.  Now it's time to finish the series again.  I waited until I watched the last movie before starting them again. I also have had Brisingr on my list the past few times now and really want to finish it.  Keeping my fingers cross that I finally do so.

What are you reading this fall?  We'd all love to know.

It's time...What are you waiting for?  Get reading! The challenge goes from today, September 23rd, through December 21st.

    Fall Into Reading 2010

I may conquer this list yet!  Since I last posted about my reading progress I have been reading like crazy!  I've taken Uncommon Faith by Trudy Krisher off of my list for right now as when I started it I just didn't get into it and I had some other books that were calling my name.  I've added those below.

Here is my "Books to Read" list and my progress:

A Deadly Yarn by Maggie Sefton ~ I'm over half way through. ~ DONE!
The Nativity Collection by Robert J Morgan ~ DONE!
The Robe of Skulls: The First Tale from the Five Kingdoms by Vivian French ~ DONE!
I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced by Nujood Ali ~ DONE!
Fairest by Gail Carson Levine ~ DONE!
Igraine The Brave by Cornelia Funke ~ DONE!
Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball by Donita K Paul ~ Currently Reading (review coming up)
    Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
    DragonSpell by Donita K Paul
    Masterpiece by Elise Broach

If I get through these I may add more...and who knows...I may change it up again.  We'll just have to see what I feel like reading.

So...have you gotten any reading done lately?  If so, what have you read?  What are you currently reading or what do you want to read?  Let me know!

    Fall Into Reading 2010

It's almost that time again! Now I need to get a list of book together that I would like to read during the Fall Into Reading time span. It will take place between September 22nd through December 20th. If you'd like to participate you can learn all about it by clicking on the button above. It's always so much fun and she usually has giveaways during this time.

I'm thinking of having Sam participate in this challenge. I'd like to see him read at least a few books during this time but I'm not going to make it a requirement. He hasn't read "for fun" in awhile and I need to change that. I know that seeing us read will be good for him so maybe I need to set scheduled reading times again. It will be great for us all.

I'd love to hear if you're going to participate or if you're going to have your family participate as well. Heck...get your kids classmates to sign up too! I don't think you need a blog to do this either. I'm telling you...you need to head on over to check it all out. It's a lot of fun.

Now a couple of questions for you. What are your favorite books? What books would you recommend that I read? I'd love to know.

I took some books off of the list so now my list is shorter but I did pick up some books at the library today.  I just don't have them nearby so I'll add them later.  The end of this reading challenge is June 20th and I'm really enjoying the challenge.  I usually read more during these reading challenges than any other time of the year.  I'd like to see that change though to where I read like this year round.

Are you participating?  Do you want to? Just click on the button above! It's a lot of fun and I find myself reading more and more during these challenges. You can join at any time too so don't let the dates hold you back. If you don't have your own blog it shouldn't deter you from participating...leave your list here in my comments! I'd love to see what you are reading.

    America's Biggest Bedtime Story

I have been looking forward to this day for quite some time!

Today is "America's Biggest Bedtime Story" event presented by Book It! For this year's event, John Lithgow will share his book, Carnival of the Animals. Last year there were 197,972 participants that watched Lithgow read his book, I Got Two Dogs. This year if they surpass last years numbers they will donate funds for 50,000 meals to Haiti Relief through the World Food Program.

You can also re-watch last years, I Got Two Dogs, that is also written by John Lithgow. This one is a sing-a-long and is fun to watch! This event lasts all day so it really doesn't matter when you watch it, whether you're young or old...just go over there and watch a great story and help them surpass their goal! What are you waiting for? GO!

Is A Book A Book When It's Not A Book?

The title is the question that has been going around lately with a few friends of mine. I recently started to listen to books on my MP3 player while doing things around the house, going for walks or exercising or while waiting for Sam at one of his many activities where actually reading a book just isn't feasible. I started doing this because I really want to read more books this year but am having the trouble finding the time to read more. I do read some nights before going to sleep but it's just not every night like I used to as I'm pretty tired lately. The conversation all started when I told some friends of what I was doing. They loved the idea but also said that it's not really "reading" a book. Well I say it is. No, I didn't hold the book in my hands and feel the pages as I turned them. No, I didn't even use an electronic reading device (Kindle or the like) but I did listen to the book being read to me. When children are younger they say that reading a child a book is just as good as them reading it themselves. Wouldn't that still hold true for us adults? What do you think? Would you count it as having read the book or not?

    Manic Mondays ~ Deceiving

Continuing on from last weeks Manic Mondays post....

I checked out the book Deceptively Delicious, by Jessica Seinfeld (yes, married to Jerry) at the library today. I have never been a fan of tricking your kids into eating fruits and veggies because I believe that they will have a hard time learning to eat them, like them or even love them when they are older. I could be very wrong I really don't know. Sam has always been one to eat his fruits and veggies but since he's not eating that much lately and I know that his nutrition value has gone down (yes, he even takes vitamins) I'm going to give this a try.

On Amazon there is one review for this book that has a great suggestion that I may do mainly because I can always use help in the "doing it quick and easy" area. Here is what she suggested: "...one suggestion for busy parents - use organic baby food. I don't have a food processor and I don't have a dedicated block of time to clean, cook and prepare all the purees for the week. For about $.65 (or less) per jar, I can have 1/2 cup of organic winter squash etc. that has already been cleaned, cooked and pureed for me. Plus, it will keep on the shelf until I need it so I can buy extra when they go on sale." Now I can do this!

I'm open to reading suggestions so please leave some comments. Just remember to be nice.

Fall Into Reading ~ An Update

I can't believe that I've not posted anything for almost a month! WOW! We've all been pretty busy and I don't see it slowing down until after Christmas. I'll do my best through the holidays to keep posting to my blog as I hate that I haven't done so recently. I love to write and to share our lives with all of you.

Now on to an update in my participate in the Fall Into Reading 2009, hosted by Callapidder Days. There is still time to join in as it ends on December 20th. I so love these as it keeps me reading and it keeps me reading around Sam. So here's the updated list:

    2. Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs - FINISHED!
    3. Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs

    10. Encyclopedia Brown Cracks the Case by Donald J Sobol - Currently Reading

Most of the books that Sam and I are currently reading are from one of his schools lists and we are trying to get all 20 books read by January 30th. He not only has to read the book but also pass the reading test on them. I'm very proud of the fact that he wants to complete the list this year. Last year he didn't have any interest in doing so. The rest of the books on his list are:

    1. The Penderwicks on Gardam Street by Jeanne Birdsall
    2. Surprises According to Humphrey by Betty Birney
    3. Masterpiece by Elise Broach
    4. Martina the Beautiful Cockroach A Cuban Folktale by Carmen Agra Deedy

    11. Art From Her Heart Folk Artist Clementine Hunter by Kathy Whitehead

We already have 6 of the above books here at home and will be reading them as soon as we get done with the two we are currently reading. There are roughly 10 weeks left until he needs to have them done and I don't see why he can't get them done. I do have to say that I'm enjoying reading all of these books too!

    Fall Into Reading 2009

The Fall Into Reading 2009, hosted by Callapidder Days, has already started and I'm a month behind! Right now there are over 200 participants an I'm looking forward to looking through every single one of their lists and seeing what other books out there I want to add to mine. :) If you love reading and books in general join up or at least make yourself a list of books that you would like to finish reading by December 20th. I know that I will probably not finish my whole list but it sure is nice to have one. So here are the list of my books that I at least want to read first. I may add to this list as I go along. Here are my books in no particular order:

    1. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke - I'm almost done with this one. I started it awhile back but this might give me the push I need to go ahead and finish it.
    2. Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs
    3. Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs
    4. Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
    5. Julie & Julia by Julie Powell
    6. A Country Practice by Laura Abbot
    7. So You Want To Be A Wizard by Diane Duane

I know that at least I'll be adding to the list the books that Sam and I have been reading. Now that I think of it I'll just go ahead and start a list of the two that we are currently reading.

    1. Santa Duck by by David Milgrim - FINISHED and will probably read again tonight
    2. Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner and Greg Hargreaves - UPDATED 10/20~FINISHED!

    PhotoHunt - Books

This weeks theme over at PhotoHunt was Books. I didn't take any new pictures this week because, honestly, I forgot. So into my my photo archives I go. If you'd like to see more "book" pictures just click the icon above.

Sam at the library reading books. It's hard to get him out of there some days. The next picture of the books are books from my grandfather. They are very special to our family.
